For die-hard Disney fans (slowly raises my own hand), the D23 Expo is like Christmas. Founded in 2009, Disney’s official fan club hosts a biennial convention filled with Disney surprises, reveals, and of course lots and lots of costumes. This year, the expo took place July 14-16 at the Anaheim Convention Center. Here are the biggest things we learned:
1. Star Wars-Themed Hotel announced
The internet exploded after Disney announced their plans to create an immersive Star Wars themed hotel where each guest gets a storyline! Here’s hoping they’ll let me take up permanent residence when this hotel opens in 2019.
2. Toy Story Land at Disney World
Disney’s Hollywood Studios is getting a new addition! A Toy Story land will be open in Summer 2018. Joining the land are two new attractions: Slinky Dog Dash and Alien Swirl Saucers.
3. Star Wars Lands Get Names!
Both Disneyland and Disney World are getting their own Star Wars-themed lands which will be named Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
4. Welcome Spider-Man and the Avengers to California Adventure!
California Adventure park in Disneyland is getting a superhero-themed land featuring our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man and Star Lord.
1. The Incredibles 2
After several billion years of waiting, we finally have a release date for the sequel to our favorite superhero fam movie! Releasing on June 15, 2018, this time around the focus will be on Elastigirl.
2. Dumbo Gets A Release Date
Tim Burton is at the helm of this live-action Dumbo remake with Colin Farrell and Michael Keaton joining the cast. The film will be released on March 29, 2019.
